Velocity Server Switch after 1.20.5

Hi,

while trying to update my own Velocity server switch mod from 1.20.4 to 1.21.1 (> 1.20.5), I came across your project and a todo in your VelocityServerSwitchMod.java.

Will you be re-enabling this in the future or is Velocity no longer relevant to this project?

I've been trying to familiarize myself with Fabric and came across this information, but I haven't managed to implement a CustomPayload yet.

We are planning to no longer use velocity past 1.20.4 and instead make use of MC's new transfer packets to switch servers.

The Velocity switching was originally it's own mod before being merged into serverutils. I can update that to 1.21 for you.

Thank you very much for your very quick reply and the direct update of your mod. I absolutely did not expect that with my request :)

However, when I run “/velocityserverswitch survival”, for example, I get an error message with “Unknown or incomplete command, see below for error...”

According to the server and client log, however, the plugin is loaded and the Minecraft client also shows the command with parameters when typing the command.

EDIT:
My main goal is to run a Minecraft server with three instances. The users can switch back and forth between the worlds via custom portals. If this works without Velocity, I can of course do without it. I'm just trying to manage this switch with my own portals and have come across the mixture of Velocity, Fabric and your custom portal API.

It's working fine for me? Maybe something is configured wrong on your end?

Now we no longer need to use velocity for this purpose anymore. It can be done with Transfer Packets. I'd recommend looking into them if you don't have any other uses for velocity. I haven't touched them yet but I can give you a hand figuring it out. Feel free to dm me on discord.

I had just tried to write to you on Discord. I use a part of the CmdPortals from the DatapackPortals Mod and combine them with the Velocity Server Switch.

My old implementation also worked. However, I made a small mistake when rewriting the dispatcher with the arguments and set the brackets incorrectly.
I had accidentally used .then().executes(). This meant that the command was not registered correctly.

However, it now works correctly.

In the meantime, I'll have a look at the transfer packages and possibly remove velocity from my mod. But I'm not sure if that will be enough for my purpose, since Velocity stores the last visited server and I don't think that will work with the transfer packages, right?

Glad it's working now!

The last visited server functionality would need to be recreated. Transfer packets just tell the client to reconnect to a specified ip. When the client leaves and tries to rejoin the server, they will just be put back on the main server. It would be pretty simple to save a list of what servers the clients transferred to on the main server and just auto transfer them back there on join.
