2.9: Axis GUI does not allow MDI stacking (again)

Seems we have somehow lost the fix to this issue in 2.9:

which was supposedly fixed by:
7852337

but line #982 is still in current 2.9:

it is fixed in master:

It looks like this might never have been merged into 2.9. I have created a PR to merge the fix to 2.9. #3642
