Hot Reloading Drops Additional Component Inserts

Is it possible to hot reload html templates and persist components that were added in Bevy?

e.g.:

    commands.spawn((
        Name::new("Settings Menu"),
        HtmlNode(server.load("ui/menus/settings/index.html")),
        TargetCamera(*ui_camera),
        Settings,
    ));

When ui/menus/settings/index.html is updated, the Name, TargetCamera, and Settings components are lost.

Changing:

bevy_hui/crates/bevy_hui/src/build.rs

Line 185 in 8fef215

.retain::<KeepComps>();

to .remove::<FullyBuild>(); does seem to solve this issue but I'm unsure if there are additional consequences to this that I'm not seeing.

I have to look into it. This is a Problem that is not that easy to fix. Changing retain to remove instead breaks other interactions.
I also encountered this problem in the past and couldn't fix it on the spot.

Which other interactions were broken? So far I haven't seen any hiccups after making the change locally but I've only built out some basic stuff so far with hui. Just curious what I should be looking for / troubleshoot the overall issue.

There are things like borders, shadows etc. that are part of a separated component. If you remove them from the HTML, they must be removed on hot reload.

This might also be true for custom components (I had this case happen). Or in your case the opposite.

That why decided to just clean the node and start new.

The FullyBuild Component marks a node as, well, fully build. Removing it triggers the build step, this can have side effects.

I do not have a simple solution for this right now. I need to do some further investigation or changes to the API, to mark certain components to persist.
