GSoc 2026 applicant

Hello everyone!

I'm Omer, currently pursuing a B.Sc. in Computer Science. I’m interested in participating in GSoC 2026, and I’m really excited to contribute to MDAnalysis.

I’m comfortable with Python, currently learning Cython, and I enjoy working on data structures and performance improvements.
I’m still new to open-source at this scale, but I’m very motivated to learn and contribute. I’ve already cloned the repository, run benchmarks, and explored the codebase to get familiar with the project and workflow.
Made #5329 as a first PR focused on improving on deprecated tests! I'd appreciate feedback,
