makedeb is a port of makepkg(ARCH) to debian packages. It takes in a converted PKGBUILD for debian/ubuntu and builds a deb package.
It's selling point is the ease of use, it's even written in bash. It's not perfect, it's a bit buggy. You can take Arch PKGBUILDs and try to convert them.
I think this program is important and in line with MX goals. It's a lot easier to use( it's all bash) then the normal debian packaging tools, so it makes packaging more accessible. It would be nice to have an official MXUR like the AUR, so that users can upload their PKGBUILDs there. The AUR is a resounding success, you can't argue with that.
I think this is the perfect fit for MX. Currently what hurts the tool is that it isn't embraced by a distro.
In debian, they are thousands of request for packaging. That's just too overwhelming, there's a large demand for packaging that isn't fulfilled. Just making it easier for users to created packages will allow to satisfy the demand in a pragmatic way.
Make a poll of the idea with existing MX users to see what they think of it.

https://mpr.makedeb.org/ Is the equivalent to the AUR. A lot smaller though.
