IoT from WAN

Hi! I am currently developing a project to control a device with IoT. I am new to this, and I have one main doubt. The website on chip works but only on the local network. Is it possible to work with the chip as a server from WAN? I mean, I will make an IOS/ANDROID APP to control the esp32s3, and it has to be able to control the chip from any place in the world, but I don't know how to do it. Is it possible doing it? Or do I need an external server? Whatever you know please let me know, I am kind of lost, I don't know how to make apps, so I am a real newbie.
