[Bug]: Using local Invidious instances always create the error "TypeError: Failed to Fetch"

Describe the bug

With the current version of FreeTubeAndroid, I cannot use my local Invidious instance. Loading subscriptions or videos always results in the error message "TypeError: Failed to Fetch" with an fallback to the local API and broken thumbnails.
The interesting thing about this issue is, that it is specific to FreetubeAndroid. Using FreeTube on Fedora 42 does not exhibit this issue. I also tried the local invidious instance in my browser, which also worked fine. The Clipious invidious client for android does also work fine so I do not think that it is a setup issue of my invidious instance.

Expected Behavior

After adding the local invidious instance, videos and thumbnails should load without error messages.

The instances you are using have their API disabled. You must use one that have their API enabled. You can check this on api.invidious.io

As described above, I use a self hosted docker container instance in my local network. And the API seems not to be disabled as I can call api paths like api/v1/stats, Can you give me a pointer on what could be configured wrongly on my end? The other apps I mentioned including FreeTube for Desktop work fine. The instances from the link you posted work better, but I get different error messages when using them, so that is also not optimal.

This is likely because clear text traffic is not enabled for the application. So, if you are connecting to your local instance through HTTP, that would explain it.

I added the url of my local instance like I would an external one in the settings menu. Is there another way to use a local instance? Is there anything I can do and if yes, what do I need to do?

Even with https, if you are using a self signed ca certificate on your reverse proxy it will cause this behavior. One way to fix this is to import the ca certificate to your user store on your phone, add a networkSecurityConfig xml with a trust anchor for user certificates, and update the AndroidManifest.xml accordingly.
