Cut mesh along geodesic path: Python

Hello Devs!!

I'm trying to use cut the mesh along closed geodesic path

I found the older discussion stating computeGeodesicPath here

in my case i have a JSON object with point co-ordinates.
How do i project the points on the mesh and use the cut mesh along path feature in Python

Hello!

1. Read coordinates from your JSON file to mm.MeshTriPoint values:

coords = list()
for jsonCoord in jsonValues:
    pos3f = mm.Vector3f( jsonCoord["x"], jsonCoord["y"], jsonCoord["z"] )
    coords.append( mm.findProjection(pos3f, mesh).mtp )

2. Convert it to special format:

cutContours = list()
cutContours.append( mm.convertMeshTriPointsToClosedContour( mesh, coords ) )

3. Cut mesh with this contours:

mm.cutMesh( mesh, cutContours)

Thanks for your help, I tried the solution you provided, in that i can see the new edge created by the the cutMesh, how do i separate the two components?

First you need to find component FaceBitSet:

cutRes = mm.cutMesh( mesh, cutContours)
leftPart = mm.fillContourLeft(mesh.topology, cutRes.resultCut) # note that if there is tunnel connecting left and right part it will return full component
rightPart = mesh.topology.getValidFaces() - leftPart # all disconnected components will also appear in this part

Then you can create new mesh

leftMesh = mm.Mesh()
leftMesh.addPartByMask( mesh, leftPart ) # note that it in next release this function will be deprecated, instead use `addMeshPart`

or you can separate current mesh to disconnected components:

for eLoop in cutRes.resultCut:
    mm.cutAlongEdgeLoop( mesh.topology, eLoop ) # disconnects faces from left and right side of the loop
mesh.invalidateCaches() # required after changing topology directly
