When you start the create replica workflow, a blank Azure Database for the PostgreSQL server is created. The new server is filled with the data on the primary server. For the creation of replicas in the same region, a snapshot approach is used. Therefore, the time of creation is independent of the size of the data. Geo-replicas are created using the base backup of the primary instance, which is then transmitted over the network; therefore, the creation time might range from minutes to several hours, depending on the primary size.
