Motion and wlr-randr

I'm trying to get motion to turn on and off the HDMI screen by using wlr-randr on my Raspberry Pi running Wayland by using this in the .conf-file:

on_event_start wlr-randr --output HDMI-A-2 --on

on_event_end wlr-randr --output HDMI-A-2 --off

That doesn't work unfortunately. Testing shows this:

sudo -u motion bash -c 'wlr-randr --output HDMI-A-2 --on'
error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is invalid or not set in the environment.
failed to connect to display

Running wlr-randr --output HDMI-A-2 --on as user pi works fine.

Any way around this?
