🐞 Menu bar icon disappears after update check

Bug Description

When I press the 'Check for Updates' button in the Loop menu, the menu bar icon disappears.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Enable Loop in the menu bar
2. Click on the Loop menu bar icon
3. Click on "Check for Updates"
4. Observe the menu bar icon disappearing

Expected Behavior

the icon should stay in the menu bar

Actual Behavior

the menu bar icon just disappears

I’m not able to reproduce this issue on my end (macOS 26.2), so it may be related to the beta.
When you mention that the menu bar icon disappears, can you confirm whether Loop is still running and usable? If this is actually a crash, that would indicate a more serious issue.

Loop is still running, only the menu bar icon is affected by this bug

As someone who is still using macOS 15.7, I also cannot reproduce this issue. Is something trying to hide Loop after a state change, i.e., some menu bar app, like Ice, Barbee, etc.?

Very interesting ... I honestly have zero idea how this is even happening. There are no logs we have set up for this. I mean, you can go to console (macOS app) and filter by com.MrKai77.Loop to see if it states a refresh or something else. Or ultimately, build from source and add a full range of debugging to check. Have you also tried restarting your Mac? Although I don't think this will fix it, it's always a good thing to do once in a while.

I restarted my mac and the bug is still there. I will check it with some debugging in the menubar and try to figure it out and fix it (hopefully)

@cipher-shad0w that would be really helpful! One of the first things I'd try would be to switch

MenuBarExtra(Bundle.main.appName, image: "menubarIcon", isInserted: Binding.constant(!hideMenuBarIcon)) {

Over to:

MenuBarExtra(Bundle.main.appName, image: "menubarIcon") {

to check whether hideMenuBarIcon is changing at all, or if the binding itself is causing the issue. Hopefully that helps, and I’m interested in hearing what you find!

@MrKai77 have you removed the option to update Loop from the menubar?

It looks like you’re running an older build. You’ll want to pull the latest commit from the develop branch; the current build number should be around 1650.

I updated Loop to the latest version and was unable to reproduce the bug, so I assume that your changes have resolved it
