Question: What does the multimeter do?

What does the multimeter do? ive tried rightclicking it on anything and it doesnt do anything
what is it meant to do?
also there seems to be no way to check what value a wire is carrying. Is the multimeter supposed to do that?

It used to show an overlay with the current wire signals. At some point, because of render system changes, it was not carried forward. At this time, it does nothing. However, I'll go back and implement chat based readings as a temporary workaround rather than having a non-functional item sitting there.
