mpd on Debian 13

Whenever I try and start mpd I'm consistently getting this error -

$ mpd
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'fmt::v10::format_error'
  what():  unmatched '}' in format string
2025-08-25T09:56:49 exception: MPD died from signal 6: No such file or directory

I've been through every mpd.conf file looking for a loose '}' and there aren't any! So, where is the error coming from, and how can I track it down please?
