Description

Describe the bug

WsaClient.exe crashes with ACCESS DENIED (0x80070005) on all GApps/MindTheGapps builds

Environment

  • Windows Version: Windows 11 Home, Version 25H2
  • OS Build: 26200.7309
  • System Type: 64-bit, x64-based processor
  • Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12450H (2.00 GHz)
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Installation Date: December 1, 2025

Problem Description

All WSA builds containing Google Play Services (GApps or MindTheGapps) fail to launch any applications, including Google Play Store and the Android File Manager. WsaClient.exe consistently crashes with error code 0xc000027b and access denied error 0x80070005.

Working:

  • ✅ NoGApps builds work perfectly

Not Working:

  • ❌ All GApps builds (2407.40000.4.0)
  • ❌ All MindTheGapps builds (2407.40000.4.0)
  • ❌ Builds with Magisk + GApps
  • ❌ Builds with KernelSU + MindTheGapps

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. Download WSA_2407.40000.4.0_x64_Release-Nightly-with-KernelSU-v1.0.5-MindTheGapps-13.0-RemovedAmazon.7z
  2. Extract to Documents\WSA directory
  3. Run Run.bat as administrator
  4. Restart PC
  5. Attempt to launch Google Play Store or Android File Manager
  6. Result: WsaClient.exe crashes immediately

Expected behaviour

Expected Behavior

Google Play Store and other Google services should launch normally.

Actual Behavior

WsaClient.exe crashes with the following error:

Troubleshooting Steps Attempted

System Configuration:

  • ✅ Virtualization enabled in BIOS (Intel VT-x)
  • ✅ Hyper-V Platform enabled
  • ✅ Virtual Machine Platform enabled
  • ✅ .NET Framework 3.5 installed and enabled
  • ✅ All Visual C++ Redistributables installed (2015-2022)
  • ✅ DCOM enabled with proper settings:
    • Enable Distributed COM: Enabled
    • COM Internet Services: Enabled
    • Default Authentication Level: Connect
    • Default Impersonation Level: Identify

Installation Attempts:

  1. Fresh installation to C:\WSA - Failed
  2. Installation to Documents folder (as per documentation) - Failed
  3. Different WSA versions tested:
    • WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with GApps - Failed
    • WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with MindTheGapps - Failed
    • WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with MindTheGapps + KernelSU - Failed
    • WSA 2407.40000.4.0 NoGApps - Works perfectly

Security & Permissions:

  • ✅ Norton 360 completely uninstalled
  • ✅ Windows Defender Real-Time Protection disabled during installation
  • ✅ Full permissions granted to WSA folder (icacls with full control)
  • ✅ Windows Defender exclusions added for WSA folder
  • ✅ Firewall rules added for WSA services

System Repairs:

  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Completed successfully
  • sfc /scannow - No integrity violations found
  • ✅ .NET Framework 3.5 reinstalled
  • ✅ Multiple PC restarts after each change

Process Status

When WSA with GApps is installed, the following processes run normally:

  • WsaService.exe - Running
  • vmmemWSA - Running (Android VM)
  • WsaSettings.exe - Running
  • WsaClient.exe - Crashes when attempting to launch any app

Additional Observations

  1. ADB Server Issue: Even though WSA Settings shows IP address 127.0.0.1:58526, the ADB server never starts listening on this port:

    Test-NetConnection -ComputerName 127.0.0.1 -Port 58526
    # Result: TcpTestSucceeded = False
  2. No Listening Ports: Running netstat -ano | findstr "LISTENING" | findstr "585" returns no results, indicating the ADB server is not running.

  3. Consistent Error Pattern: All crashes show identical error pattern with combase.dll and ACCESS_DENIED (0x80070005).

Working Workaround

Using NoGApps build with Aurora Store as an alternative to Google Play Store works perfectly. This suggests the issue is specifically related to Google Play Services integration with Windows COM services.

Questions

  1. Are there any known Windows 11 26H2 (Build 26200) compatibility issues with Google Play Services in WSA?
  2. Could this be related to Windows COM/DCOM security policies that specifically affect Google services?
  3. Are there any additional Windows components or permissions required for GApps builds that are not documented?

System Information Summary

OS Name: Windows 11 Home
OS Version: 25H2
OS Build: 26200.7309
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel Core i5-12450H (12th Gen)
RAM: 32 GB
Virtualization: Enabled
.NET Framework 3.5: Enabled
DCOM: Enabled (with COM Internet Services)

Files Structure Verification

All required DLL files are present in the WSA installation directory:

  • gfxstream_backend.dll - Present
  • combase.dll dependencies - Present
  • ✅ All other required DLLs - Present
  • Total folder size: 2.28 GB (correct)

Request for Assistance

Any guidance on resolving the ACCESS_DENIED error with COM services would be greatly appreciated. The fact that NoGApps works perfectly suggests this is a specific compatibility issue between Google Play Services and Windows COM/DCOM security model.
