Troubleshooting Steps Attempted
System Configuration:
- ✅ Virtualization enabled in BIOS (Intel VT-x)
- ✅ Hyper-V Platform enabled
- ✅ Virtual Machine Platform enabled
- ✅ .NET Framework 3.5 installed and enabled
- ✅ All Visual C++ Redistributables installed (2015-2022)
- ✅ DCOM enabled with proper settings:
- Enable Distributed COM: Enabled
- COM Internet Services: Enabled
- Default Authentication Level: Connect
- Default Impersonation Level: Identify
Installation Attempts:
- Fresh installation to
C:\WSA- Failed - Installation to Documents folder (as per documentation) - Failed
- Different WSA versions tested:
- WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with GApps - Failed
- WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with MindTheGapps - Failed
- WSA 2407.40000.4.0 with MindTheGapps + KernelSU - Failed
- WSA 2407.40000.4.0 NoGApps - Works perfectly
Security & Permissions:
- ✅ Norton 360 completely uninstalled
- ✅ Windows Defender Real-Time Protection disabled during installation
- ✅ Full permissions granted to WSA folder (
icaclswith full control) - ✅ Windows Defender exclusions added for WSA folder
- ✅ Firewall rules added for WSA services
System Repairs:
- ✅
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth- Completed successfully - ✅
sfc /scannow- No integrity violations found - ✅ .NET Framework 3.5 reinstalled
- ✅ Multiple PC restarts after each change
Process Status
When WSA with GApps is installed, the following processes run normally:
- ✅
WsaService.exe- Running - ✅
vmmemWSA- Running (Android VM) - ✅
WsaSettings.exe- Running - ❌
WsaClient.exe- Crashes when attempting to launch any app
Additional Observations
-
ADB Server Issue: Even though WSA Settings shows IP address
127.0.0.1:58526, the ADB server never starts listening on this port:Test-NetConnection -ComputerName 127.0.0.1 -Port 58526 # Result: TcpTestSucceeded = False
-
No Listening Ports: Running
netstat -ano | findstr "LISTENING" | findstr "585"returns no results, indicating the ADB server is not running. -
Consistent Error Pattern: All crashes show identical error pattern with
combase.dllandACCESS_DENIED (0x80070005).
Working Workaround
Using NoGApps build with Aurora Store as an alternative to Google Play Store works perfectly. This suggests the issue is specifically related to Google Play Services integration with Windows COM services.
Questions
- Are there any known Windows 11 26H2 (Build 26200) compatibility issues with Google Play Services in WSA?
- Could this be related to Windows COM/DCOM security policies that specifically affect Google services?
- Are there any additional Windows components or permissions required for GApps builds that are not documented?

Request for Assistance
Any guidance on resolving the ACCESS_DENIED error with COM services would be greatly appreciated. The fact that NoGApps works perfectly suggests this is a specific compatibility issue between Google Play Services and Windows COM/DCOM security model.
