Why can't I add 'fates_spitfire_mode' in the 'user_nl_clm' of CESM?

'fates_spitfire_mode' has been defined in "https://fates-users-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user/namelist-options.html"
but I can't found the name option in the CESM namelist "https://docs.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm2/settings/current/clm5_0_nml.html"
Is that true? How can I set the 'fates_spitfire_mode' in CESM?

You are pointing to an old version of CESM, which used a much older version of FATES (sci.1.30.0_api.8.0.0) and the latest version of FATES. In order to use the latest versions of FATES, you need to be using much more recent versions of CESM/CTSM.

We just made a development release tag of CTSM (ctsm5.4.002) that uses close to the latest version of FATES

https://github.com/ESCOMP/CTSM/tree/ctsm5.4.002

This would be a reasonable starting point for work using CTSM and FATES.

Thanks but I am using CESM2.2.2, which seems like the newest version. Is that true? Why do I still meet this problem?

Hi @LucasXin2. The FATES user's guide currently covers the latest FATES development and not previous FATES tags. We will start tagging releases in the user's guide starting with the CLM6 release (see NGEET/fates-users-guide#105 to track this issue).

For CESM2.2.2, the namelist option is use_fates_spitfire. This is because there is only and on/off switch option for engaging the FATES fire model at that point in the FATES development. In general, CESM-FATES lags behind the FATES main branch (although this will be updated in CESM3). To use the most recent up-to-date FATES features, you should use the CTSM (https://github.com/ESCOMP/CTSM).
