General improvements for build pipeline integration

Dear all,

first and foremost: Many thanks for your efforts and the decision to open source this work!

I got quite excited when I discovered this and started building a proof of concept for Venus OS, the OpenEmbedded based Linux distro of Victron Energy. Thereby, I discovered a few difficulties integrating into our SDK, for which I opened PR's: #3 and #4

I hope my contributions are received well.

PR #3 makes sense but requires some additional testing internally on our end to make sure it works in our build configurations. We will let you know soon.

PR #4 is approved and merged today.
