[BUG] CI assertion failure in incumbent callback test

I am able to generate segvs and core files with the incumbent test run in a loop on an A6000 or A100, but I have not been able to recreate the assertion failure

I was also unable to replicate the assertion failure on a L4 machine with the RelWithDbgInfo build mode. Maybe it is related to a specific configuration.
