Why is Windows' Hyper-V allowed to use nvidia gpu and provide a virtual gpu to linux and windows VMs inside, but linux hosts are not allowed?
I understand Nvidia wants to promote datacenter GPUs for VMs and all, but most of us don't want to see any AI workloads being off-loaded to VMs. We already have docker for said stuff. Containerization with nvidia still works.
I dont see any reason why nvidia is disabling vgpu for consumer gpus like RTX 4070. I paid the same price, but I am being expected to use windows just for VM stuff, when my workflow requires Linux desktop.
Please allow some sort of VM gpu acceleration, so we could run professional apps in Windows without needing to dual boot or other stuff. You guys can disable CUDA if you really want to, as its mostly used in AI workloads, but please allow normal gpu acceleration for apps like CAD software and others.
Linux KVM is similar to Windows' Hyper-V, so I don't see a reason why not to, unless Microsoft really forced Nvidia to allow vGPU support, but there's no one from linux side to force nvidia.
