NCPA will not start after Windows Server 2019 Cumulative Updates

Hello,

We have a number of Windows Server 2019 instances that have NCPA v3.2.0 installed, these service will no longer start after the Windows CU updates are installed.

I have experienced this with previous versions of the NCPA and Windows CU updates.

The only error message we get is that the NCPA client service timed-out starting, the log files are empty even after setting to debug level logging.

A re-install works to resolve the issue but I don't want to have to re-install NCPA on 20+ servers each time we push out Windows updates....

We have an upcoming release that hopes to address a few issues that some windows users are experiencing. We are aiming to deliver this in the next couple of weeks.

Was there anything in the windows event logs? Just confirming that a reboot didn't fix the issue, but a reinstall did? Are you using Microsoft Azure VMs?

Thanks for coming back to me, these are on-prem VMware guest machines, sadly a reboot doesn't help. The Windows Event Log just confirms the fact that the service timed out and failed to start, sadly no helpful info there...

Thanks for all the info. Can you confirm that in services.msc that NCPA is set to Startup Type of Automatic (Delayed Start)? There is a related issue here #1215 where adding the startup delay seems to resolve the problem.

It doesn't seem to make any difference in these instances - I can't even start the service manually...
