Provision ONTAP storage for Proxmox Virtual Environment

Summary

Customer feedback:
The NFS documentation is incomplete and lacking in many ways:

  • Under “Storage Admin tasks”, Step 3 does not explain what settings are needed for the export for PVE. This caused me 3 days of trial/error to make it work.
  • Under “Virt Admin Tasks”, step 1 does not explain how to configure optimal bonds at all. This also took me many hours to experiment with seeing what NetApp would like.
  • Step 3 never works and NFS mounts do not ever auto-populate from NetApp. Even when they do mount successfully, they never auto populate in the dropdown.
  • Step 4, the screenshot is unreadable and there is zero elaboration on how to configure this advanced multi-pathing.
  • PVE does not use FSTAB for NFS mounts, so this is completely wrong and non-factual. Directions are out of date, and there are no instructions on how to configure NetApp and PVE for performance at all currently.
  • Step 5 does not explain how to add multi-pathing to the storage.cfg, the proper location for NFS definitions on PVE
  • No information on whether read/write delegation, pNFS, or other NFS options are needed or required for PVE mounts – making it all trial/error as usual.
