• he's busy committing to private repos, so the account is active - it's just this repo that is isn't

Yes that's true, I haven't worked with Go(Hugo) myself for 3+ years. Might make sense for me to archive the project to clearly show the status of it. Feel free to fork it (or implement your own solution instead), once a bit more widely accepted I'll point in the README to it instead.
