In COLUMN T I am entering the variable names that correspond to the requests. Column U contains the responses from CMIP6.

Questions arising. from process.

CTSM Questions

• What is "mrsow" or relative_soil_moisture_content_above_field_capacity. Is this to do with excess ice?

• How do we report the 'fx' variables?

• rsdss: Surface Downwelling Shortwave Radiation over the portion of a land grid cell covered by snow but not by ice?

• Is TSKIN the temp of longwave emissions?

• Units of VOLR and H2OSFC?

• Some varialbes, e.g. Eday.lai and Eday.laiVgt, are the same except the 'Vgt'. Unsure what this means for now.

• Does CH4PROD need multiplying by a wetland fraction?

• Is FCH4TOCO2 biological consumption of methane?

• What is areacellr? (area to report river fluxes?)

• Where to find the depth of lakes?

• Where to find orog

• sftgif - shifting glacier area - do we do this?

FATES Questions

• Is FATES_HET_RESP the same as HR with different units?

• Why are there values in LiTTERC_HR? This seems to come from the decomp cascade in CLM?

• Misc missing things

litfire (itter fire flux)  is this FATES_FUEL_BURNT_BURNFRAC_FC/area_burned * FUEL_AMOUNT?
Coarse root Carbon?

Land use fluxes. Unsure if we can do these or not yet?

NGEET/fates#1407 adds variables equivalent to hflsLut and hfssLut I think. lailut we could add easily. swelut seems undoable at present since snow is all on the column structure rather than the patch structure?

NGEET/fates#1485 adds a fire C loss from live fuels, so you could calculate litfire as the difference of total fire carbon loss and live carbon fire loss.
