Regarding customisation

What if you went the Suckless route and have a module that essentially is the configuration file?

That is a fun idea that I've considered in the past. I disagree with Suckless in so many regards, but maybe this is the way to go. It might be especially useful to customize the ASCII logo, which not all people have agreed with.

If you're interested in submittig a PR, I'd be happy to review one. Otherwise I'm putting this on my backlog for now.
