XR Hands Sample

I was excited to test the XR Hands Sample, but the sample does not seem to be working out of the box. I'm seeing an issue with loading the Oculus DLL. Is there a specific version and set up we need?

We likely need a bit more information to better understand what's going on. Perhaps you could share the errors you're seeing in the console? And which version of Unity are you using?

Additionally, in trying to get the project to run locally, did you:

1. Try running the entire XRHandMenuSample project directly?
2. Clone the project and then copy/paste some parts of it into your own project?

(1) we expect to work, but (2) could mean there are certain dependencies of the project which weren't copied over.

I've tried in Unity 2022.3.8, 2022.3.12 and 2021.3.30 but the hand tracking is not working in any project. I downloaded new instances of the repo for each unity version but they all behave the same. There are no errors, but the hand tracking is not working, the virtal hands to not move when you press play and the scene stays black.

I download the repo, open the project, select ignore to the error warning, install Nova from the Package Manager, deselect the settings file, click import, open the demo scene , press play and everything is black and the virtual hands do not register any movement. The Headset does.

Adgray1, could you try making a new instance of the repo and testing to see if it works for you? I am pretty sure there is something wrong with the package.

Hi Nathan!

If hand tracking isn't working, the scene staying black is to be expected - the UI elements are activated via hand tracking and require hand tracking be enabled.

While it's possible something unexpected is going on, a more in-depth investigation will have to wait until tomorrow.

In the meantime, we have a few follow up questions to better understand your setup:

1. Which headset are you using?
2. Is hand tracking supported and enabled on your device?
3. Instead of selecting "ignore" on that initial popup, is the other option "open in safe mode"? If so, could you try opening in safe mode and then importing Nova into the project?
4. Before entering play mode, do you see prefabs in the scene in edit mode? You can select the PanelUIController object in the hierarchy window and then press F on the keyboard to focus on the object in scene view.

Oh my.

I didn't have hand tracking enabled. I'm so sorry. I feel the shame... ;)

If I am still stuck I'll post more but I'm pretty sure that will be it. sorry for such a rediculous post.
