Why the purple rectangle in build?

Hi!

I have a purple rectangle in my build versions instead of gui with pro version, what setting may I miss?

I created an empty project for testing too, like.

1. create project
2. download script inspector 3, text mesh pro, nova // I did not get to the part, where SI3 may be relevant, mentioning it for possible compatibility reasons
3. putting these into a folder called "!3rd party", I like things organized
4. using sample screen adding an empty GO, with UIBlock, with ScreenSpace and SortGroup
5. adding textblock as child element, resizing for 100 percent width, adding text like "teszt" tádá...
6. setting the cam background to black
7. enjoying, it shows / runs, nice... even exiting unity for this first test
8. commiting to svn repository, without the library and logs folder
9. checkout to a different directory
10. doing a build like "-batchmode -logfile "outputfolder\Build.log" -quit -projectPath "folder..." -buildtarget Win64 -buildWindows64Player "name""
11. the program runs, cam background is black, but there is a purple rectangle in the middle of the screen

in other projects the same happens.

Did I miss a setup step for Nova maybe for builds? Or a file?

It sounds like Nova might be failing to load a shader, so a couple of follow up questions:

1. Did you modify the lighting models of any of your UIBlocks? And if so, did you make sure to include them in Project Settings > Nova > Rendering > Included Lighting Models?
2. Do you have any errors in the logs when you run your built project?
3. Do you have the same issue in the project that you used to commit to the svn repository?

Actually after trying to resinstall Nova I could break it in the original project too with messages like

Shader error in 'Hidden/Nova/NovaUIBlock2DUnlit': Couldn't open include file '../UIBlock2D.cginc'. at line 55
Shader error in 'Hidden/Nova/NovaTextBlockUnlit': Couldn't open include file '../TextBlock.cginc'. at line 102

even tho' the files are original location and I get purple rectangle in editor too. This may happen in the other directory too.

When you reinstalled Nova, did you do the following: remove Nova from you project, delete the content of your Library folder (the Library folder will be under the same parent folder as Assets and make sure Unity is closed while you do this), reopen Unity in "safe mode" if it prompts you with that option (otherwise just let Unity open as normal), and add Nova back to your project through the package manager. If you didn't do the installation using those steps, it would be worth trying them to ensure it is a fully clean install.

If that doesn't work, could you please provide the Unity version you are using, as we are unable to reproduce this issue.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to restore the original folder.
I was trying to investigate, how to reproduce this error the easiest way.

Here it is:

• Unity v2022.3.10f1 LTS
• Nova v2.1.0
• started with a 3d project, just with the builtin, nothing fancy

1. you have an empty 3d project
2. install Nova
3. create an empty GO
4. put UIBlock on this GO
5. put ScreenSpace on this GO, SortGroup is automatically created
6. set Match cam resolution as fill mode for ScreenSpace
7. create child GO2 for GO / or Nova TextBlock
8. set position to top, left, 20px, 20px (the purple rectangle will be aligned to top-left)
9. set width to 100 percent
10. set text to whatever visible or change background too on camera (I did not. wanted the shortest path)
11. file > build settings and add this sample scene as first and only scene in build
12. close the window, close Unity as well
13. open up file manager
14. browse the project directory
15. copy
16. paste so you have the same files in an other directory
17. in this other directory delete the library and logs folder
18. in Unity HUB browse for this other directory, open this as project
19. logs, library and an additional temp folder is automatically created by Unity
20. the project is opened with empty scene, do not select the sample scene, just go for build with CTRL + B, and select an output directory as well

You may see that the purple rectangle now, where you should see your GUI.

Also a note here:

If I leave out the part where "in this other directory delete the library and logs folder", so after copy/paste, just open the project in an other location:

• Unity will open up with the SampleScene and not with empty scene
• There will be no purple rectangle

So maybe Unity/Nova is storing important stuff in these folders, what is not regenerated (my guess is ShaderCache).
These are (or... were?) not meant to be versioned, as far I know.
