Request: New character settings

1. Thanks for this addon, it makes my altaholism much nicer :)
2. I won't blame you for not wanting to do the following ... but ... if it's viable without too much risk I could really see it being handy
3. If there's already a way to do this, I missed it. I'm very new to the addon.
4. This would have been most useful for me personally during my Remix time ... I'm not needing this option for me at this point (way too many toons already). But I figured I'd document it for the next person (or the next time I do a full UI revamp, once an x-pac)

Request: New Character defaults with profile cleaning

Reasons:

When creating a new character, many addons create a default profile. That's cool. But a fair number create a new profile for that specific character and, with lots of characters, creates a ton of files that are never accessed again. When doing regular backup/restores of UI it causes a bunch of files that could be safely nuked.

Methods:

I'd love to see a set of options that:

• UPM sets all profiles for an unconfigured character to a specific profile automatically (like the 'Apply to all alts' but would be done proactively for future characters and characters that haven't been logged in yet)
  • ie, if UPM has no flag showing this character has been configured, it applies selected profiles to the character
  • This would need to be off by default, but selectable via toggle. That way the default behavior isn't changed possibly messing up players with existing configurations
• A sub-option for 'delete this character's per-character default profile'
  • as in if UPM is about to auto-apply the selected profile from the bullet above, also delete the auto-generated per-character profile
  • don't delete 'Default' profiles and don't touch any files that don't match the per-character settings

Alternative:

The above is probably a wee bit risky.

An alternative that would still dramatically help would be a function the user can invoke for each profile to select profiles to delete.

• Provide a list of all profile for each addon in their individual entries, with a way to toggle them
  • clicking the name or clicking a checkbox, whatever is easy
  • Multi-select needed here
• A 'select all (except currently selected profile)' button
• A 'deleted selected profiles' button
  • Probably warrants a 'Warning: the following profiles will be deleted [list]' warning after clicking the delete button

This doesn't need to be done often. So maybe put it in a "clean up" section.

Workflow for cleanest profiles would be like:

• Player logs all characters once to build all those random profiles
• Player sets 'Apply to all alts' for whichever addons
• Player uses this mass delete function to clean up those dozen(s) of profiles for each addon rather than needing to click each profile and 'Delete'|'Prune' for each (which adds it's own risk of mis-clicks due to how many may need to be done)

hi, it's a long list, so I won't reply to every point individually (for now at least 🙂)

as a general note, the Prune function, would only need to be done once per addon, not per profile, since it'll delete all unused profiles for a specific addon

I'm generally quite cautious when it comes to applying actions to all (or even most) addons, since some addons that use AceDB (and thus show up on the list), actually support profiles properly
some addons will break if you're not using a profile with a specific name etc, so any "global" action would need some careful thinking to avoid users shooting themselves in the foot 🙂

another "issue", is that currently this addon actually has no state, and doesn't really do anything besides consolidating all profile UIs in 1 single config UI; this makes automatic profile switching etc a bit more difficult

I am generally aware that people would like to have some more global management, such as defining some kind of "master profile" manager or something, to allow you to define a list of profiles that you can apply for specific characters
or switch between profile loadouts or something like that
but I'm limited on time, and still need to think how I'd want to implement such features :D
