GSoC 2026 – Interested in Challenge code for ASL/DCE/DSC

Hi OSIPI mentors and community,

My name is Ahmed Ibrahim, a Computer Engineering student interested in applying for GSoC 2026 with the project idea:
“Challenge code for ASL and/or DSC/DCE”.

I have experience with Python, Docker, Git/GitHub, and I am comfortable working with testing, documentation, and structured pipelines.

I have read the project description and I am particularly interested in building the standardized evaluation pipeline (submission validation, Docker execution, scoring metrics such as RMSE/ICC, and reporting).

Could you please advise:
• What is the preferred communication channel for this project?
• Are there recommended first tasks or issues I can start contributing to?
• Any documentation or repository I should focus on first?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! In general we would like to see from potential contributors: a) a positive community-oriented communication b) what do you want to get out of GSOC? c) indication that you understand the task and have built in ways to test what you have implemented to prove it works ;)
Here are my answers to your questions
• What is the preferred communication channel for this project? > for me, slack or here via github
• Are there recommended first tasks or issues I can start contributing to? > the first task will be to have a set up for receiving the submitted results consisting of nifti-images and perhaps code as well (if we want the participants of the challenge to submit executable code to reproduce their results). So the first task is to check if the nifti is in the correct format and if the submitted code is runable/executable on the images to see if it reproduces the results.
• Any documentation or repository I should focus on first? Here are relevant papers from previous years' challenges:

Hi Lena,

Thank you for your response! I will address your questions in detail in my proposal, including my motivation for joining GSoC and my understanding of the task.

Regarding the project, I have completed a working prototype for the OSIPI evaluation pipeline. The pipeline currently does the following:

• Accepts NIfTI data submissions (ground truth and submission outputs)
• Validates the NIfTI format
• Runs the submitted code to ensure it is executable
• Computes RMSE for the submission results

Additionally, is there an existing repository where development will start, or will the pipeline be a new one?
