Diabling entirely on Mac of Outlook addin developed with Office.js

Dear Comminity,

I want to develope my Outlook addin only for Windows Desktop and Web and want to disable it entirely on Mac.

Please advice me how to setup this requirement in Outlook manifest.

Possible solution (Extracted from existing issue, might be incorrect; please verify carefully)

Solution 1:

There is currently no way to limit the manifest.xml of an Outlook add-in to specific platforms. However, you can check for the platform within your add-in and provide an appropriate message to the user in the add-in frame. You can use the combination of Office.context.mailbox.diagnostics.hostName and Office.context.mailbox.diagnostics.hostVersion to detect that the add-in is running in Outlook Mac.

Solution 2:

There is no way of targeting a specific platform with the manifest. What you can do is to show an error in those platforms where your add-in is not supported. You can use office.context.diagnostics.platform to find out what platform you are on and then potentially provide a page with information on the platforms you don't support.

Thanks for the question. At this time, Outlook add-ins cannot be restricted to specific desktop platforms (Windows vs. Mac) through the manifest. If your manifest includes the element, the add-in will load on Windows, Mac, and Outlook on the web.

The Office Add-ins platform does not currently provide a way to exclude Mac clients via the manifest or Partner Center settings.

If you need to prevent users from using the add-in on Mac, the recommended approach is to detect the host at runtime (using Office.context.mailbox.diagnostics.hostName or Office.context.diagnostics.platform) and display a message indicating that Mac is not supported.

We’re marking this as by design and routing to the manifest team.
