[question]: Implementing Live Activities into MAUI App

How can we help?

Im trying to implement iOS Live Activities into our MAUI app. Im following the guide https://documentation.onesignal.com/docs/cross-platform-live-activity-setup

But im stuck on the part on what to do with the .swift files, do I just place them in Platforms/iOS folder and hope for the best? Do I have to compile it and make a binding library?

If anyone has a more detailed guide or more information im all ears.

Hi, OneSignal wants you to create a native WidgetExtension in XCode, which is the correct way for ReactNative, Flutter, etc. and also works for MAUI, however you could do this in C# as well, but you would need to do it manually, like with the NotificationServiceExtension.

If you do it like OneSignal says you would reference the Extension in your MAUI App with a native Reference in your .csproj

Hi @MadsMY, we just merged Live Activities support into the demo app in #170. You can use it as a reference for your own MAUI app.

Here's what's needed:

1. Enable Live Activities in Info.plist

Add NSSupportsLiveActivities to your iOS Info.plist:

2. Call SetupDefault at startup

In your MauiProgram.cs, after initializing OneSignal:

3. Add the Widget Extension

The .swift files can't just be placed in Platforms/iOS. They need to be compiled as a separate Widget Extension (.appex bundle). MAUI doesn't support building Swift widget extensions directly, so the approach is:

1. Keep the Swift source files in your project as reference (e.g. in a OneSignalWidget/ folder).
2. Build the widget extension using Xcode (or xcodebuild) into a .appex bundle.
3. Place the pre-built .appex under Platforms/iOS/PlugIns/ and add it to your .csproj:

This is the same pattern used in Microsoft's MAUI Live Activity sample.
