👋 Who are you?

We're Open Source Collective, a non-profit working for the common interests of those who create and use open source software.

We exist to promote a sustainable and healthy ecosystem, and to sustain open source technology for the future. Our primary focus is our fiscal sponsorship program. We provide a home for nearly 3,000 open source projects on the Open Collective platform, acccepting contributions and handling the legal, tax and acconnting processes on behalf of our member projects.

We provide a service for open source maintainers and their communities, and for open source sponsors looking to support projects.

🧐 What are these discussions for?

We want to build our future with you.

Earlier this year we announced our strategy for the foreseeable future. That strategy incorporated three focus areas:

• An ecosystem-wide approach to supporting open source software
• Enable projects to use their money as well as raise it
• Make financially contributing to open source not only a good business decision, but an easy one

We continue to evolve our strategy, sharing updates on our blog and here as we build the team and make the strategy real with product and service proposals. But we cannot do this without a broad and inclusive conversation with our users and our supporters. Which si where you come in.

This space is for structured and considered feedback on the plans we share, and what we might be missing.

We already have a space for casual conversation (join our Slack) and just into #opensource. We also have a space for platform issues and bugs (over in our main platform repo).

This space is for discussing where Open Source Collective focuses our attention, both as a host and as a platform provider. We want to share what we're working on and engage in a conversation about the progress we're making. We're keen to hear from both users (maintainers, contributors, sponsors) about the services we already provide, what you're currently focussed on and where there might be an opportunity for us to help you achieve your goals.
