Problems with poor internet connection and bad UX

If your internet connection is poor, you may experience problems downloading the runtime. Details:

GE-Proton is up to date.
UMU-Launcher is up to date.
Components are up to date.

If you launch umu using a GUI launcher like Faugus-launcher, the problem becomes completely invisible to the user. I reported this bug, and upstream reasonably responded that they couldn't fix it because it needed to be fixed in the backend

What and how can the UX be improved:

• Increase the number of download attempts. For example, the Steam client will try to download indefinitely and eventually finish downloading. This will reduce the user's headache.
• Improve mirroring of distributed files and make downloads more reliable and faster.
• Improve the current status of events and ensure that GUI frontends can more informatively display what's currently happening to the user.
