Problems activating SNMP in OpenAM

Hi, let’s see if you can help me. I’ve followed the following guide (https://www.openidentityplatform.org/blog/2022-04-28-openam-prometheus
) to enable SNMP in OpenAM, but I can’t get it to work. I’ve applied the change from the graphical interface and then restarted the service, but I don’t see port 8085 listening on the machine, and the verification command snmpstatus -c public -v 2c localhost doesn’t work either. Is there any additional change that needs to be made? I’ve tried with the latest version available on Docker Hub.

Run the following command:

snmpstatus -c public -v 2c localhost:8085

You should see output similar to the following

[UDP: [127.0.0.1]:8085->[0.0.0.0]:0]=>[] Up: 0:00:00.00
Interfaces: 0, Recv/Trans packets: 0/0 | IP: 0/0

Thank you for such a quick response. From the local machines, I don’t have snmpstatus available, but from another machine I do.

snmpstatus -c public -v 2c openamhost:8085 Timeout: No Response from openamhost:8085

A test that shows I have access to OpenAM and that it’s possible to connect to other available UDP ports.

nc -zvu openamhost 123 Connection to openamhost 123 port [udp/ntp] succeeded!

I have the feeling that even though I’ve enabled SNMP from the graphical interface and restarted the service, it’s not actually being activated.

Unfortunately, I’m unable to reproduce the issue you’re experiencing.
Please enable debug logging in OpenAM and check the logs after restarting for SNMP error.

Unfortunately, JDK 17+ broke SNMP support, due to removed packages.
As a workaround you can do the following:

• build your own OpenAM Docker image with JDK 8 or 11
• use OpenAM JMX to export Prometheus metrics with https://github.com/prometheus/jmx_exporter
• use OpenAM Docker 14.2.2 and earlier versions
