"Add Store Code to Urls" + routers endpoint

If you enable "Add Store Code to Urls" frontend routers like this:

   21     <routers>
     22       <xxxxxx>
     23           <use>standard</use>
     24           <args>
     25              <module>xxxxx_xxxxx</module>
     26              <frontName>endpoint</frontName>
     27           </args>
     28       </xxxxx_xxxxx>
     29     </routers>

routes like
/index.php/endpoint
and
/endpoint
are not working.

What would be a work around for this?

you can add default default store code thus
/default/endpoint

You can use the undocumented feature to omit the store code from the url:

config.xml

// ...
        <request>
            <direct_front_name>
                <your_frontName />
            </direct_front_name>
        </request>
    </global>
