Feature Request: Register Android Messages Desktop as a handler for sms: links #493

Description

@krsteffen

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Clicking on sms: links in Windows 11 currently does not launch Android Messages Desktop. Using Firefox, if I click an sms: link, click "Choose Application", and specifically choose "Android Mesesages.exe", nothing happens.

Describe the solution you'd like
I’d like Android Messages Desktop to register itself into the O.S. as a handler for the sms: URI scheme. This way, clicking an sms: link would (1) launch the app, (2) ideally open a conversation with the specified number, and (3) also ideally include the default text if that was included (see "Additional context" below for an example).

Describe alternatives you’ve considered
As far as I know, I would either type the phone number into Android Messages Desktop, or manually copy and paste. Of course this is do-able, but not ideal.

Additional context
Software like certain IRC clients, email clients, Microsoft products, etc. register themselves as handlers for irc:, mailto:, ms-word: links, so it's certainly a common feature among other desktop apps.

See https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc5724.txt for details. Usage examples included in that document are: sms:+15105550101 (an sms to a single recipient), sms:+15105550101,+15105550102 (a group/mms message to multiple receipients), or sms:+15105550101?body=hello%20there (an sms to a single recipient, where the initial text (which can be modified before sending) is "hello there").
