How can I go about setting CustomUserSettings via code?

I am trying to set a value on a user's profile via code and this is the only way I can seem to do it. Is there a better way to do it?

    userProfile.ContentItem.Content.UserProfilePart.Replace(JObject.FromObject(userProfile));

    user.Properties[contentDef.Name] = JObject.FromObject(userProfile.ContentItem);
    sessionUser.Properties[contentDef.Name] = JObject.FromObject(userProfile.ContentItem);

    await _userStore.UpdateAsync(sessionUser, CancellationToken.None);
}

When I retrieve the a new instance of the part, the Name property is null.

You should be able to do something like this

user.Set(new UserProfilePart()
{
    Name = "Some name",
});

then when you want to get the value back,

var part = user.As<UserProfilePart>();

I don't see Set available on User. Did you mean Put?

I ended up using .Alter<> and thanks for the tip for .As<>!
