Research plan, questions draft - everyone’s input welcome!

Hi, everyone!

Sorry, I originally thought we’d keep the conversation going in the kickoff thread until we had concrete questions, so I’ve been sharing updates and asking for feedback there, #17810 (comment).

I’ve now started outlining the research plan along with some early survey questions. I’d love to open it up here so anyone can chime in. Please feel free to share any thoughts, comments, or questions you'd like to include, happy to hear from you!

I’m thinking about where we can share the survey, with community members, their clients (if they use it for work), and I am also thinking the possibly outside the community, like Reddit? I’m not sure how that will go, so I’d love to hear if you have other suggestions on where we could share it?

Here, and the other channels would work, specifically asking community members to send it to their clients/users too (I'd do that as well).

It'd be great if you could join the Tuesday meeting too, to share updates there, because that's watched by people on YouTube too. And then it gets into the weekly Dojo blog posts too. I'd have mentioned this thread today, but I didn't know about it.

Or I can record a short Loom video that you could play during the meetings, would that work and be helpful?

Tuesday is better for this topic, and that's the meeting which is also recorded.

Playing a video during the meeting would be less than ideal, because it's not just about having updates, but also having discussions and quick feedback about things that allow this. As a last resort, you can post video updates and I can bring up the matter during the meetings.

As we discussed, please add links to such new discussions under #17327 so people being subscribed to that will get notified too (you can't get notified about new discussions on GitHub if you're only interested in a single category). I didn't see this until now either.

A couple of notes on the survey:

1. Why do we need the country? I'm curious about that, but I don't think it has much relevance to the admin.
2. Do we really need an "Other..." for everything? Keep in mind that open-ended questions make processing the results harder.
3. "What best describes your role when using Orchard Core Admin?" I'd use scenario-based categorization here, because these role names don't mean the same for everyone. Like: "I'm... Building a web app for a client / Editing content of my organization's website / Evaluating Orchard Core for future use"
4. I assume "Which of the following describe your involvement with Orchard Core? (select all that apply)" is simply duplicated and it's not that something else is missing there?
5. "How long have you been in touch with Orchard Core?" If you're reading this survey then at least "I’ve just started" applies :). So I don't think "I haven't used it yet" makes sense. "I don’t actively use it, but I’ve tried it before" and "I've evaluated but don't actively use Orchard Core" seems the same.

And at this point, I realize that this is getting too much, so it's be better to go through this on a call to talk about the rest. But before that, please check the above, and also two more general notes:

• Can't it be shorter?
• What's the goal, what is it that you most want to figure out from the survey?

Thanks for the update. Two notes:

• We definitely want the new admin to be accessible and follow WCAG 2.2 AA.
• While in apps where there are a lot of custom features with their admin components much of the admin may be custom indeed, the frame those are embedded into is still the OC admin (and custom features usually not just integrate with the OC admin, but also follows its patterns). So, feedback from these use cases can be very much relevant for the default OC admin experience too.

@baipai I’m also wondering what the action plan is and what the next steps are. I feel like everyone who wanted to share feedback or fill out the survey has already done so, and I’d really love to move forward with this.

I’m also putting effort in at Lombiq to make Orchard Core more attractive, not just within the OC community, but to new users as well, so this would be an important step in that direction.

If there’s anything you need from @Piedone or from us, whether it’s figuring out next steps or anything else, just let us know.
