What is EDA?

• An approach to data analysis, contrasted with modelling, null-hypothesis significance testing etc.
• A careful preliminary to modelling, ensuring that the right/appropriate modelling method(s) are chosen, i.e. the model corresponds to theory and data
• A great chance to think carefully and creatively about visualising data
• Lots of fun, and a real time-suck if you're not careful!
