Art request - A basic overlay template for YouTube thumbnails #14151

Outline

As we do more YouTube videos, we'd like to come up with a very basic overlay for thumbnails. The goal here is to have something that communicates "this is PostHog video" at a glance, even if the contents of the thumbnail vary in style and content.

Here are some references for what I mean...

BBC News does this red border with the logo in the corner, and seem to have flexibility about where the logo appears. @alexvanleeuwen-posthog and I thought this might be a good approach for us, probably using our red / red that looks orange color, though probably not as chunky as the BBC.

Image

We did something like this for the DeskHog video.

Y Combinator mostly just put their logo in the top right of every vid

Image

This football / soccer channel does borders + logo in the corner (always the same corner)

Image

Lots of other channels just put their logo in the corner (normally bottom left), which may be fine / what we do. I don't feel strongly, but I'd like to decide something for the tranche of videos we've got coming up in Jan.

First one will State of the Hog, for which we have this main image to which we'll probably add a caption: https://fromsmash.com/James-Thumbnail

(link because it's too big to upload to GitHub directly)

I figure we use this as a test case for that we want to do here. For context, we'll probably add the word "YEAR 1" as caption above where he's pointing, but we may test other captions as well.

Deadline & Priority

We want to post the first video w/c Jan 12

Technical requirements

YouTube thumbs need be 16:9, so assume 1920 x 1080.

Additional comments

Alex has a bunch of other photos of James doing poses that might be useful if you want to experiment with what this could look like for different things.
