Trademark Policy

Overview

This document outlines the trademark policy for ZeroBuild, an open-source autonomous software factory developed by PotLock.

Trademarks

The following trademarks are owned by PotLock:

  • ZeroBuild™ - The primary project name
  • ZeroBuild Logo - The official project logo and visual identity
  • PotLock™ - The organization name

Permitted Uses

You may use the ZeroBuild trademarks without prior written permission in the following contexts:

1. Referring to the Project

  • Accurately describing your software's compatibility with ZeroBuild
  • Linking to the official ZeroBuild repository
  • Referencing ZeroBuild in documentation, articles, or presentations
  • Describing forks or derivatives in a way that does not imply official status

2. Non-Commercial Uses

  • Educational materials and tutorials
  • Conference presentations and talks
  • Blog posts and technical articles
  • Open source projects that build upon or integrate with ZeroBuild

3. Modified Versions

  • Forks of the codebase for your own use or modification
  • Must clearly distinguish from the official ZeroBuild project
  • Must not imply endorsement by PotLock

Prohibited Uses

You may NOT use ZeroBuild trademarks:

1. Impersonation

  • In a way that implies affiliation with or endorsement by PotLock
  • As part of your company name, product name, or service name
  • In domain names, social media handles, or app stores without permission

2. Confusion

  • In connection with software that is not compatible with ZeroBuild
  • To distribute modified versions without clear differentiation
  • In a manner that could confuse users about the source of the software

3. Commercial Exploitation

  • Selling merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, etc.) without written permission
  • Using in advertising without clear attribution
  • Claiming ownership of the ZeroBuild trademarks

Guidelines for Proper Use

When using ZeroBuild trademarks:

  1. Attribution: Include attribution like "ZeroBuild is a trademark of PotLock"
  2. Accuracy: Ensure your use accurately describes your relationship to ZeroBuild
  3. Distinction: Clearly distinguish your project from the official ZeroBuild project
  4. No Modification: Do not modify the logos or stylized text except for scaling

Forks and Derivatives

If you create a fork or derivative work:

  • You must remove all ZeroBuild and PotLock branding
  • You must choose a new name for your project
  • You must not use any confusingly similar names
  • You should acknowledge the original project in your README

Example proper attribution:

This project is based on ZeroBuild by PotLock.
ZeroBuild is licensed under MIT/Apache-2.0.

Logo Usage

The ZeroBuild logo may be used:

  • ✅ In presentations and educational materials about ZeroBuild
  • ✅ In blog posts and articles discussing ZeroBuild
  • ✅ In project READMEs when linking to or referencing ZeroBuild

The ZeroBuild logo may NOT be used:

  • ❌ As your project or company logo
  • ❌ Modified or altered in any way
  • ❌ In connection with incompatible or competing products

Reporting Trademark Violations

If you believe someone is misusing ZeroBuild trademarks, please report to:

PotLock reserves the right to modify this trademark policy at any time. Changes will be posted to this file and announced in the repository.
