Is it expected for proton pass autofill not to work on elements inside the shadow dom?

I noticed that if you have login/password html inputs inside the shadow dom on a website, the proton pass extension isn't able to find the input fields and create drop downs (on firefox). Is this expected behavior? I think it is but wanted to check. The shadow dom by design does not allow browser extensions to modify it?
