Handlebars are a black-box with next to no feedback on errors. This makes it difficult during the design process when things just don't work right.
The Solution you'd like
Provide additional logging or output that provides the inputs and outputs.
Alternatives that you've considered.
Writing a whole separate Handlebars server that takes mock MT inputs.
