Reset pinned tab URL doesn't always work

Let's say I browsed to a page that I want to pin (e.g. www.google.com) and then pinned it. I then browse to a few sub pages (e.g. www.google.com/abcde/12345) and then right click on 'Reset pinned tab URL', I would expect it to reset back to www.google.com. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't.

An easy test case would be to create a folder in OneDrive and share it with ANYONE - i.e you give them anonymous access. The generated sharing link would not require users to login with a Microsoft account. The problem is, as those users navigate around OneDrive, the URL changes. If after a while the tab gets suspended or they close their browser and later they come back to the tab, they would "lose access" to OneDrive. If you try to "Reset pinned tab URL", it wouldn't work. However, if you had bookmarked the original sharing link URL, you would be able to gain access with that.

Thank you for your feedback. Because the pinned tab reset feature relies on persistently caching the tab URL and tab ID when the tab is initially pinned, in certain situations (such as restarting the browser or sleeping the tab causing the tab ID to change), the reset may indeed fail. We will investigate this issue and redesign a more robust solution. We will update this issue as soon as there is new progress.

Hi, I tried the latest version and it's still not able to reset the URL properly. A good example is OneDrive.

1. Browse to a folder in OneDrive, then pin the tab.
2. Go to another tab and make it active.
3. Right click on the OneDrive tab and suspend it.
4. Go back to the OneDrive tab and click reset URL.

The problem is that when the OneDrive accessed on a company owned device, there will be firewalls that block access to it if the URL changes slightly. If I right click the tab to reset the URL, it doesn't reset to exactly the same URL from when it was pinned.

We fixed this issue in version 3.4.6. You can upgrade and test if it resolves the issue.

I've upgraded and the issue is still there.

The issue is there for any website, including Github. To replicate:

1. Browse to a Github page (e.g. ABC)
2. Pin tab
3. Browse to other pages on Github, or to a different website
4. Suspend tab
5. Refresh tab, now click reset pinned tab URL, it should reset to page ABC, but it doesn't

You need to right-click the pinned tab icon and select "Reset Pinned Tab URL" from the menu to reset the URL.

Reactivating or refreshing a Suspend tab will not trigger the reset.

Alternatively, restarting your browser will also reset the pinned tab URL if "Reset pinned tabs URL on restart" is enabled.

Yes, I know that. That's why in my previous comments, I've always mentioned "reset pinned tab URL".

Perhaps you can give my instructions to replicate the issue a try.

I understand what you mean.
The URL for resetting the tab is associated with the tab ID, but the tab ID changed after being discarded, making it impossible to reset. I will continue to fix this issue.

I think it should just show a prompt to the user. By default, the prompt will take the current URL and use it as the reset pinned tab URL. However, that URL could be incorrect, as the user may not want it. The user can then replace the URL with their own and that will be the URL to always reset to.
