What is ICU selection?

In the text editor preferences, what does the ICU selection do?

I'm using the powerful Sora Editor as a text editor. It has this feature and so I just added it for those who needs it. It seems to change the way the editor decides the word edges.

The one thing that I know about it is that when enabled, it considers Hello.World as two words, so if you double click (or long click) on Hello, only Hello will be selected, as opposed to if it was disabled, both Hello and World will be selected.

This is probably just a tiny thing about it, but that's just what I know.
