Fair question. It all started when I believe one of the libraries requires it (it doesn't exist in AndroidManifest, but shows in the APK file, that is why I assumed it was most likely added by a library. Though I did not know which one), so I had to exclude that permission manually from the AndroidManifest. This has been discussed before. Now however, and since the introduction of check for update feature (ab92318), those permissions are needed to check for new updates. Looking at the code history, the permission did appear after the major refactor that I did, and that seems to be a remanent of me testing the FTP feature (yes, I did implement a half-baked FTP feature, and it was working very well! this is why I stated in the v1.3.0 changelog that the file system is now capable of handling network storages, It just need some time to be implemented properly). |
