Fancontrol freezes

Hello everyone,

Since I started using Fancontrol with PawnIO, I've been having constant problems. Whenever I make a change, such as creating a fan curve, calibrating fans, or adjusting other settings, Fancontrol freezes. After a while, anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, it starts working again. What could be causing this? I've already reinstalled all .net programs, but unfortunately without success.

Of course I have logs. Unfortunately, you can't tell what the error is from them.

Only the Event Logger shows error 1002 Application Hang: The program FanControl.exe version 247.0.0.0 has stopped interacting with Windows and has been closed. For more information about the problem, see the problem history in the Control Panel under “Security and Maintenance.”

What I did meanwhile: I reinstalled the entire program using net4.8 and set the startup delay to 60 seconds. Now it's much better and doesn't freeze every time, but the problem isn't completely solved yet.

The motherboard I use is a Gigabyte Aorus X870E Elite X3D with dual ITE Super I/O

Not sure if related, but did NVIDIA change their API ? There sure are a lot of NVAPI errors.

Which driver version are you on and which GPU do you have ?

Does something change if you try to disable specific hardware in settings ? Like GPU, Memory, Storage, ... don't remember at the moment which settings there are.

I don't know if it's GPU related because this worked before with the same CPU. I have a 5080 and run the latest Driver (without Nvidia APP and all Container stuff).
No nothing change when I disable hardware settings.

Also, make sure you are on the latest version of FanControl, you mentionned 247.

I am now using the latest version V252 with a clean installation of Windows 11 Pro, but I still have the problem that the system freezes. I have now set the delay time to 90 seconds and will see if that works better. I think it has something to do with the ITE I/0 controller or something related to the SM bus.

This error indicates a out of resource exception, RAM, page file, or disk space.

This error only occurred once during the RAM test. But it seems that the freezing of Fancontrol is not going away. I'm still having problems with it...
