Let’s make a logo

Right now Ripple just uses a simple R as its logo. It works, but it feels more like a placeholder. It’d be great to have a proper logo that really represents Ripple and gives the project a stronger identity.

If you’d like to help, please share your ideas or designs here so we can work towards a logo that fits the framework.

I was thinking about a more distinctive icon. An “R” as a file icon or logo feels a bit off. Since the framework is called Ripple, we could try something with rings or maybe even a raindrop. I’m not a designer, haha, but I found some icons online to show what I mean.

pretty interesting, R and at the time it looks like a ripple. we could play around with this and do R outline in a different color (e.g. diffusing) and possibly try a colored dot in the R's top part (the circle). Could also try using some other color for the "background", instead of black.

Basically saying to add more zing, and while I really like the concept, it seems to me too subdued - not asking for more attention.

As a designer, I recommend the following: we need to keep in mind that the icon must remain very clean and recognizable even at small sizes, since it will be used in the IDE. I have prepared a few initial examples to illustrate possible directions (this is just a first draft). Tomorrow I will prepare some additional variations, but if we decide to go with a simple shape (e.g., just a rain drop) I would suggest keeping it minimal and not overcomplicating it.

wonder how this abstract one would look in one color, e.g. just white, bright blue and medium grey. and perhaps a tiny bit smaller

I like the idea of using R more than a raindrop, as a raindrop doesn't feel very connected. However the R looks very mechanical and not "elegant"

I was discussing the logo this morning with @Scorpio3310 and he's struggling with lack of directions. My personal view and input to him was:

1. it definitely has to be unique to not be easily mistaken for something else or even copy some other logo
2. mono color
3. shape rather than R
4. suggets ripples, simplicity, speed

Maybe if all of you write down the expectations, it'll be easier for anyone designing a logo to come up with something truly wonderful.

I prefer the cursive R look to the blocky look that every project has had from the past 10 years. I’m not so keen on it being complicated by being filled with ripple strokes though, it makes far too difficult to read at icon level

This is a similar style with a script font. I smoothed the outlines to give it a more organic feel.

how about this? it's not actual png and if we like it, we need a designer to clean it up as it was generated from ai prompts.

But I thought it's cursive, elegant and unique enough. You kind also get this effect of 2 R's, one on the outside and one on the inside

To me, ripple sounds fluid. Perhaps animated, changeable, not static. I gave it a try.

I think we are getting closer:

• For the “large” logo, I would stick with the “Reference.” It's just spot on. Besides, this logo will probably always be “accompanied” by the logotype in context somewhere.

• The favicon and minimal application require a slightly modified quote anyway (the large one is too complex for 16x16px), so we can integrate the abstract R here and solve the “one-sided Wi-Fi” problem on top of that.

Cool concept, I feel like the detail becomes lost when scaled down for a file icon use and it just ends up looking blurry.

I've been following this and thinking about it a bit. Thought I'd throw in an idea that isn't directly tied to the "R" or water, but could still show a "ripple", which we do see in so many other elements in life. My idea is using a flag "rippling" in the wind.

I haven't thought too much about colors yet, but wanted to get away from the blues, greens, and purples we see a lot in other brands. so just using orange here for now.
