What happens when context is automatically condensed?

Does Roo basically lose the entire context of the chat up until that point? Like when it goes from 200K back to 20K context, he lost the last 180K of the chat? And only has the original 20K context of the chat? I need to know if this is how it works because it seems like Roo is constantly forgetting what dir or thing we're working on.
