My thought is that if a user manually mentions a file we should let them send the contents.

hmm is it possible to de-prioritize 'ignored' files in the result? so that at least they're not at the top, but still there if the user wants it—by typing their full name

@mrubens I'm not sure if it changed in #1824 but right now if I have a file in my .gitignore, I'm unable to mention it in context. For example repomix-output.xml is in my gitignore, therefore I can't mention it.

That behavior is not in line with the currently documented logic at least https://docs.roocode.com/basic-usage/context-mentions?_highlight=ignore#ignore-file-interactions

Similarly, file and folder @mentions do not respect .gitignore rules when fetching content.

I'm not using .rooignore/.clineignore files , just the .gitignore.
