Claude Code hangs at API Request on VsCode/Code-Server

🔁 Steps to Reproduce

1. Code-Server VSCode on my server accessed through browser.
2. Write a prompt and it starts for a bit then hangs
3. Sometimes it works and task is completed. Sometimes it doesnt and just hang indefinetly
4. I use roo on Trae with Claude Code and doesnt have this problem. Every command is executed and API Reqeustr works

💥 Outcome Summary

On Code-Server - VsCode, Roo just hangs when using claude code and once in a while it manage to completes the task, but most of the time it just hangs at API Request and nothing happens. Stop the task manually and start it again results in the same thing.

I have local Trae that SSH into my files where vscode code server is located, and when i use Roo with Claude Code, it works perfectly.

A few things can cause this kind of intermittent hang with Claude Code on VSCode/Code-Server, especially when it works fine in another environment like Trae. First, make sure the Claude CLI is installed and authenticated in your Code-Server environment—run claude --version and claude auth in the Code-Server terminal to confirm. If you set a custom CLI path in Roo Code, use the absolute path and check that it's executable and in the PATH for the Code-Server session.

Network or firewall differences between Code-Server and Trae could also block or delay requests. Anthropic rate limits can cause silent hangs if exceeded, so check your usage tier and try a different model if possible to rule out model-specific issues.

If you can, enable Debug Mode in Roo Code to get more detailed logs during a hang. There’s no documentation on environment-specific setup for Code-Server, so if none of these steps help, check for any error logs from Roo Code or the Claude CLI and compare your network/proxy settings between environments for clues.

Just an update : for some reason using Roo Code Nighly works perfectly.
Trae experience its first API Request Hang on the stable Roo Code release. So its not the IDE problem.

Thanks for the report. I need a few more details to help troubleshoot this properly:

1. What operating system is the remote machine (the one running Code Server) using?
2. Is Claude Code installed directly on that remote machine, or is it calling an API via Roo?
3. Are you using any custom Claude-related config or routing in that Code Server environment?

Also, can you provide some clear repro steps so I can try to replicate the issue on my end?

If this issue is fixed on nightly then you just need to wait a bit until we release a new version.

1. Im running debian
2. Claude code installed directly on remote machine. Roo also installed on remote machine. Actually this problem have been tested on VSCode locally and i face the same issue

Im guessing this issue has something to do with the context being too large. When it reads my file main.py which is a huge python file, it hangs. I tried it on cline and kilo code and it has the same problem. I see that you're fixing it from another open bug. So i guess ill wait for that
