🔁 Steps to Reproduce

Simply workiing on a Swift project on my MacBook Pro M1 Max (32 gb). This only happens when Swift code is referenced, I have Rust projects that have no issues. I have typescript projects that have no issues. I have reverted to Cline which works (though UI waits/stalls frequently). Currently the UI using Roo just disappears. I am using indexing with qdrant (local) + OpenAI or not, both just blitz/GUI disappears. I thought it was just when editing but happens with code reviews also. Best I can tell its related to swift which is known to be flakey on VS Code. I tried methods to stress Swift out less i.e. codebase filters but no help

I'm exploring a potential fix for the Swift/iOS project GUI crash issue. I'll investigate the Swift file handling and look for any potential causes of the VS Code GUI disappearing. Will open a PR to share progress.

I've opened PR #7309 to address this issue: #7309

The fix prevents the Swift parser from loading by using fallback chunking instead. This should resolve the VS Code GUI crashes when working with Swift/iOS projects.

The solution:

• Added Swift to the fallback extensions list to avoid loading the unstable parser
• Modified tree-sitter services to skip Swift parser loading
• Added comprehensive tests to verify the fix

CI checks are currently running on the PR. Once they pass and the PR is merged, Swift files will no longer cause VS Code crashes.

@jab-r Hmmm... Not to invalidate your problems - I work on Swift / SwiftUI projects on a weekly basis in VSCode with Sweetpad, XCode Build MCP and the apple-docs MCP and I dont have crashes.

I have run many various Swift / UI projects thru VSCode - all kinds of them - lots of Paul Hudson projects, Rudrank Riyam iOS 26 AI projects, Nilcoelscing, Kavasoft, Azam Sharp Vapor projects, MVP, MVVM, TCA style, a couple with Obj-C in them still. all kinds. With or without AI IDE's installed.

I would look for systemic issue running Xcode and vsCode in 32 GB might actually be a little tight. Depending on how much ping ponging you do for Xcode #Previews and such, I have seen XCode "memory" usage climb up into the multi-gigs when I have a few Previews for UI elements going on in Xocde.

But If you are getting this with just Swift code for backend stuff, that is something to look at.

Yeah I work on rust software that doesn't have the same issue. I don't use Swift for backend stuff. Admittedly my app is complex.
Cline nor Code crash like this. Cline "stutters" in the sense I sometimes have to walk away from the GUI before it recovers and allows me to "Save" (I review all edits manually). I've been using Roo for awhile now having moved from Cline and happily use Roo for my rust apps, but Swift -> Cline. no doubt Swift is buggy on VS Code
